Mod3rnart Contest & Giveaway
That’s Right!! Happiness is only real when shared. That’s why we decided to have a contest/giveaway to ring in our comeback. What the contest will be and how it will work, we have no idea yet. What we do know is this:
The prize will be worth $100
You heard right, 100 bucks and that’s a lot of cash in the economic state that we’re in right now. So check back soon and we’ll have all the info and rules for you. Oh and let us know what you think or if you have advice on how the contest should work.
Update: OK! Here is the info you’ve been waiting for.....The prize. I have opened up a kool little web/graphic design shop over at etsy.com and one of the services I provide is a flash based catalog for marketing your work - have a look at the demo I made showing some of Eleni’s jewelry pieces (Click Here). That’s right, you can win a 14page flip-book with twitter/facebook/website integration and beautiful pictures of your work!! But it doesn’t stop there, no no. I will host the catalog on my server for 6months free of charge - Bamn!! That is a $100 value up for grabs starting sometime this month. Check back for details and more info soon.
iStudio Update

This update will be followed soon by a complete overhaul of the istudio gallery into a more manageable and faster version. Think of it as istudio 2.0 or istudio ipad update..... We would love to hear your thoughts and please spread the word and let’s get more people involved.
We're Back Again!!!
We’ve been meaning to write a blog post for a while but haven't managed to do so.. If there was ever a procrastinating contest i would possibly hold the record.. So here i am now, hopefully back for good. Spring was on its way and was really beautiful a week ago, but this last week its been really wintery and cold again. Cant wait for better sunnier days ![]()
We've been very busy in the workshop for the last month and i thought to give you a small hint on that we've been working on. Stay tuned for more and feel free to take a guess.....
FAOTW - kjd Photography

I spent some time in California and obviously was exposed to Ansel Adams. Ansel had this gift that made me start loving photography - regardless of the photo, you (the viewer) seemed to be standing next to the camera. It was as if you and the photographer were a pair and that is a amazing gift that I see in Kelsi’s work - Bravo Kjd Photography.
Let’s show some love people and give Kjd Photography some hits - go and visit her etsy shop or our gallery where her work is on display. Remember to leave a comment of support because the handmade revolution can’t go forward without love!!
We're back!!
After being gone for most of the summer, Mod3rnArt is back in full effect. Just a bit of info, we live in a very touristy part of Corfu, so for the summer months we are working 16 hours a day. Now that the season is over, we are focusing all our energy back into Etsy and Mod3rnart.com and You!! We have so many ideas and projects we want to talk about and get people involved in - here are some hints: uBag and Top Secret. More info to come.......
So.....we have some things to make up for and that means "Featured Artist Contests!!" Let's do it!!

FAOTW-Featured Artists of the Week

MFM-Apparel: "Minty Fresh Monster Apparel is run by two Minneapolis Natives, Saman and Erica. The “Mintee Fresh Monster” was born in the fall of 2007, after three months of trying to figure out a good name for this T-shirt company. It's sort of like the “Jolly Green Giant” but more trendy or something. And we sell T-shirts and not peas." With a story line like that, how could you not love MFM-Apparel? Anyone that follows this blog and remembers this entry: T-Shirts Are Art Too understands my deep-pleasure for crazy t-shirts, so I 100% support MFM-Apparel in their bid to create a New World Order with their shirt company. Check out their etsy store and our gallery feature.

Variation: Well Variation is just that - Variation. "I love to work in a wide variety of mediums, hence the name of my Etsy shop!" Most artists just stick with one art form ( I know we do) but this talented etsy artist cross creates with many different types of materials and techniques. (Send some talent my way)
"I also knit, crochet, embroider, sew, do some bookbinding and letterpress, metalsmithing, collage/ assemblage, digital graphics and animation. I've always been inspired by the amazing work I see from many, many artists and crafters, past and present, across all mediums. Drawing inspiration from great people is a beautiful way to create yourself and one can see from the images above and in our gallery that Variation is two things for sure: Diverse and Talented - Bravo!!! Also check out Variation's etsy store.

Grindstone Feature

The Storque+The Frisky+Me

"Beyoncé says that if he likes you, he should put a ring on it. For her, this translates into a $5 million diamond, but for the rest of us without Jay-Zs in our lives, there are still tons of gorgeous, original, and affordable options. Single ladies: silver, bronze molds, and spark plugs are your new best friends. All of these babies will fit your right ring finger just as well."

There are some stunning works in this collection and these amazing artists get some marketing help - which is always great. The Storque is a great place to expose the etsy world to some amazing finds, so get writing people! I'm working on a piece that involves many of our regular blog followers, so get ready!!!
Oh!! I Like That-Feature

FAOTW-Featured Artist of the Week

GrocGroc: Working as a pair has been working for us, here at Mod3rnart and from the images above (which rock), GrocGroc is a power-house team. With fresh designs, ultra modern shapes and brilliant colors, GrocGroc has such a balanced eye for jewelry. My favorite piece (2nd from the left) is so amazing-never thought about combining tennis and rings.

Nooshka: Etsy was my first real exposure to sewing and doll making, this is not to say I had no interest earlier-just that I had no items to view. Now I am fascinated and Nooshka's stunning work makes me want to be more involved in this magical world. When looking at the images above, you can see life in these dolls, you can see a small twinkle of a soul-glowing to get out. Look at the first image, the emotion of "shyness, embarrassment, loneliness is so real-so true. Nooshka's work is second to none in my book-so go and check the work out!!
Support by commenting on the blog's post-show your love for these amazing artists. Also you can see all our featured artists here and who knows, they might give us a crazy giveaway!

Etsy item of the Day-Feature

Two of our favorite items got featured-one you can see above but the other one you will have to explore to find out. Go on over and support www.etsyitemoftheday.com as it was built to support you-so go on over and who knows, Jackie might feature you!
Spanish Feature

Naventin's blog and etsy shop are perfect examples of the power of a clean-mod3rn-gorgious site, that emphasises the art and not the framing site. Websites are great but they should not take from the art by being over-powering. Have a look at the feature and enjoy Naventin's blog....you can also practice your spanish-there will be a quiz, so study hard.
FAOTW-Featured Artist of the Week

Benconservato: "I'm an Australian artist, illustrator, printmaker, photographer who spends most of my time creating things." I wish I could spend most of my time creating things-most of my time is spent destroying things

BloomStudios: Balance::Strength::Elegance this is at the heart of every BloomStudios creation and even the untrained eye (me) can see this foundation. Bloom's collection is made from a wide variety of materials consisting of many different types of precious/semi precious stones and precious metals like Silver and gold. It is obvious that care is taken in matching not only the stone but also the color of each stone to the specific metal. This aesthetic eye and the classical style that we see above, is key to the great success that BloomStudios has had. Feast your eyes on the rest of the collection in our gallery and please remember to support these artists by commenting and visiting their sites.
iStudio Feature

"When you see a workshop you see more clearly that what comes out of this place
was made by a person, lovingly sitting in front of a worktable, making decisions
with eye and heart."
This is the path I see for istudio-exposure through blogging and features but also through personal analysis by the people participating or viewing. Art is always a two way road-it is never eye with no heart. There needs to be emotion on the part of the person and the art-without this, there is no point. Go check it out.....
iStudio-Update 2

Here is what I see for istudio: I want it to keep expanding-for more and more people to submit pictures and for it to grow into a full blown etsy canvas. I have great hope in this but I will need your help, so let's start letting people know about this project!!! Invite the artists you love, hate, admire, distain to the party because as iStudio grows, it will look like a.......(I have a secret not yet revealed).
Interested in joining, E-MAIL me a picture-
WOW-Featured

Oceanside's blog is an etsy-packed powerhouse, with artists from all over etsy's vast universe pictured and featured. Oceanside has put together a perfect example of the kind of talent etsy finds and creates (not a shameless promo comment regarding me). If you are interested in getting more info on the pieces featured, you can find them in our gallery or in our etsy shop, plus check out Oceanside's etsy shop.
FrenchPressKnit's Giveaway-Ended 17/5

To enter the contest, please leave a comment in this post and a link (add the full link address, including http) to your favorite Etsy artist, explaining why they are your favorite. In the spirit of promotion, you can't be your own favorite artist....
-Update and the Winner Is.............
The winning post is by user "Benny and the Jet" for picking to promote Jessica Doyle's art. Congrats for exposing us to Jessica's shop but here is the problem....you didn't leave an email or your etsy shop name! How am I going to find you? Hope you are a returning blog reader or I might have to give the cowl to another poster-hurry!!!
FAOTW-Featured Artist of the Week
Haroldandjane is our first artist this week (pieces seen above) and she comes to us from Seattle WA. I've known H&J for some time now and her personality is so much more than just artistic; she is a combination of humor-passion-drive-life-love and these attributes can be seen in her work. The jewelry is alive with color, with spirit. Each piece pops out at you, as if to say, "Wear me...we'd look great together." Koolest little tidbit of info about H&J's jewelry....each piece is named after a song lyric, so check them out in our gallery and try to guess the songs.
FrenchPressKnits: Is our second featured artist this week (pieces seen above) and from the moment I saw her beautifully-fuzzy creations, I wished for winter to arrive early. Aesthetically gorgeous and functionally perfect, FPK's pieces make us all wish we had the patience to knit (or at least lie and say we can.) From slippers to scarves-mary janes to pillow cases, each one of FrenchPressKnit's designs is original in thought and construction, with a massive emphasis on professionalism. Check out her collection in our gallery and beg winter to come early.
Let's go and support these great artists by visiting their shops (HaroldandJane and FrenchPressKnits) or our gallery. Remember, the hand made revolution begins with our support and passion, so leave some comments and spread the word......who knows what great giveaway might happen....

We Got Featured

iSTUDIO-UPDATE
We had our first two iStudio artists (KimberlyRose & YellowGoat) join the party yesterday and so far the gallery looks beautifully-human. For those not knowing about iStudio, let me give a small reminder or you can look five posts down. iStudio was born from the idea that, "where artists work is sometimes just as interesting as the work itself." After seeing several workshops/studios (fancy names meaning-where you work), we quickly came to the conclusion that this was also an art form; more of an anthropological artform. So what does this mean? Well, we are going to post pictures of studios from all over the world and we want you to join in.
E-mail your picture (yes, one picture, so make it a good one) to us, with your info (name/shop/web address) and we take care of the rest. We ask one thing in return, please contribute to our blog, whether it is posting a comment here or in our weekly featured artist contest or Weekly free art giveaway-be involved!!! Let us know what you think.
Featured Artist Contest
Here we go again!! On the 30th of April, we will pick our 6th Featured Artist....so get those posts going!!! The artist that is picked will have their work shown in our gallery, along with a bio and contact info. To enter, you do not need to be a jewelry maker-we accept all artists and do not be afraid to post for an artist that you think is amazing. Here are the rules:
Post a comment in this blog entry and with it leave a link to the site you wish to enter into the contest (make sure to post the link including http://...) You are allowed to post one picture in the blog if you wish but please do not post more, as it slows the site from loading. FAOTW-Featured Artist of the Week
.....And the Oscar goes to.......Helen Gotlib and Shay Dodson. This week we find ourselves with two featured artists again and if you find yourselves saying, "but why, mod3rnart?" We think the work more than speaks for itself! While from a distance, the theme and medium that our two featured artists have created, might seem similar but by taking a closer look, you truly see how independent and unique each artist is.
Helen Gotlib: Has traveled extensively. Her observations of people and customs in Japan, China and Israel have influenced her perception of the human body and how expressive it is. See her amazing work in our Gallery. Helen's work is in the first two images located above.
Shay Dodson: "Above all, my paintings express a love for paint itself; the fleshy, textural quality of oil paint and its luminescence - its thick opacity versus liquid transparency. Shay's work speaks so loudly about the animation of art and you can see her beautiful work in our Gallery.
As always, make sure to visit our featured artist's etsy shops (Helen's or Shea's) for all artists help and support each other. You can also show your support by leaving comments in our blog and who knows, maybe if the comments are nice enough, one of these amazing artists might give us a piece of art for a giveaway....
iStudio
We promised surprises and we don't lie. So here goes: We have added a new section to our gallery called iStudio and the whole point is "YOU!" iStudio was born from the idea that, "where artists work is sometimes just as interesting as the work itself." After seeing several workshops/studios, we quickly came to the conclusion that this was also an art form; more of an anthropological artform.

FAOTW-KimberlyRose Giveaway

Giveaway Winner
Sunday came and left and we were left with the hard task of picking a giveaway winner. As with the featured artist (which we have to pick tomorrow) contest, picking a winner is always hard because you guys/gals always link such amazing shops. Yet, we knew what we had to do, so we got our hands dirty and picked our winner. We are proud to announce that the etsy member "Giftbearer" is our winner, with her promotion of "Celiefago's" shop. If people don't remember the rules, just scroll down to the giveaway post and everything will be made clear. Giftbearer will get a free print of her choice from our featured artist, Wade Solowoniuk. We would also like to thank Wade for giving us the print for the giveaway, please check out all these great artists.
-We Got Featured-
We were lucky enough to be featured this week at Masaom's blog...people... you have to go and check it out-amazing!!!
She is from Barcelona and not only is her etsy shop beautiful but she also has an amazing aesthetic eye. Don't be shy Etsians, leave comments about her shop or blog-we love the feedback.

Fantastic Giveaway!!!!
FAOTW-Featured Artist of the Week
The anticipation is over and here are the Featured Artists of the Week!!! Like earlier posted (WoW Blog) the choice for the featured artist was so hard and the participation so great (50+ posts in 24 hours) that we had to pick two people. This is the beauty and the curse of having such a competition but we are up for the challenge-rock on Etsy!!
Make sure to stop by and see our featured artists, Marina Lampropoulou and Wade Solowoniuk because Etsy works on the basis of supporting each other. They are both amazingly talented artists, working in different mediums and from different parts of the world. It is beautiful to see how art can bridge people together-always amazes me. As for the wonderful artists that did not make it into the FAOTW, we have a little surprise....check the bellow blog post.
